Instrumentation Acquisition: Do the Numbers Justify the Purchase?

<p>This project provides a comparison of two viral load measuring systems, the Roche® 8800 versus two Roche® Ampliprep-Taqman Systems. A comparison is made in terms of instrumentation price, cost of reagents, and labor cost savings, while looking at affected population data to weigh whether a purchase of the more expensive of the two instruments could be justified. This project identifies Dignity Health, Kaiser Permanente, and Sutter health as entities which may benefit from centralizing testing for viral load. Findings encourage the purchase of the more expensive Roche® 8800 due to cost savings of reagents, labor savings, and higher population of affected individuals based on population data provided by the Centers for Disease Control and California Department of Public Health.</p>
