A Mis-Expression Screen Identifies a PKA -Anchoring Protein in Antenna Lobe Development

One of the genes recovered was the Drosophila A Kinase anchoring protein 200 (Akap200). This thesis discusses the further characterization of this gene. Akap200 is a Protein Kinase A (PKA) binding protein with multiple binding sites for other signaling molecules, including Protein Kinase C (PKC), Camodulin and F-actin. Further studies showed that ORN axons of the Akap200 mutants stall in the path to their targets. The loss of Akap200 has different effects on different classes of ORN axons. These findings provide new insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying ORN axon targeting.
