Abstract
dc:description.abstractApproximately 40,000 women in the U.S. die from breast cancer annually. An estimated 15% of all breast cancers are triple negative, wherein tumors lack estrogen receptor and progesterone receptor expression and possess unamplified human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) levels, contributing to an absence of effective, targeted therapeutics. Furthermore, triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is highly-aggressive with greater patient mortality rates compared with other breast cancer subtypes, necessitating development of novel treatment options.
