Liver Fibrosis in Chronic Hepatitis C Virus Infection: Diagnosis, Dynamics, And Clinical Significance // Чернодробна фиброза при хроничната хепатит C-вирусна инфекция:диагностика, динамика и клинично значение

Abstract

dc:description

The thesis explores the role of modern methods for comprehensive diagnosis of liver fibrosis and the results of their application in 205 patients with chronic hepatitis C virus infection: liver biopsy with assessment of necroinflammatory activity and fibrosis; automatic morphometric analysis with calculation of the area of fibrosis; clinical and laboratory indicators for non-invasive determination of patients with advanced fibrosis, including examination of serum hyaluronate levels. Five risk factors for bridging fibrosis were defined: age at infection of 35 years; disease duration of 15 years; overweight; significant alcohol consumption; and transfusion route of infection. Fibrosis regression was observed after interferon-alpha and ribavirin therapy in 50 percent of the cases, with viral eradication and fibrosis progression in those who did not respond to treatment.
