The Embrace of the Fragmented Self: The Art of Joerg Immendorff
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe progression of Immendorff's understanding and questioning of the formation of the self, made evident in his art, is shown to have evolved from an investigation of classifying external influences to a exceedingly personal introspective reflection. This study stands out from other studies for its concern with the interweaving of structural conceptions, symbolism and form. It addresses the totality of Immendorff's formal development to a greater extent than previous discussions and shows Immendorff's formal practice and ontological concerns to be a continuing form of activism.
