Isolation and Characterization of Novel Estrogen Binding Proteins: Physiological Implications

In summary, I have demonstrated the effect of estrogen and estrogen-like compounds on mitochondrial membrane-bound F0F1-ATPase and my efforts to isolate and identify cell membrane estrogen receptor have led me to discover a novel physiologically relevant estrogen binding protein: tubulin. Tubulin shows high affinity for estradiol and for testosterone, and these two steroid hormones modulate microtubule polymerization in an opposite manner. These findings add new information to our understanding of the non-genomic effects of steroid hormones mediated through those two novel estrogen/testosterone binding proteins.
