Characterization of Novel Neuronal Antigens in the Central Nervous System of Manduca Sexta

The predicted amino acid sequence of Ms-golgin80 is similar to several members of a growing family of coiled-coil, Golgi-associated proteins, including GM-130 and golgin-95. The Drosophila and Caenorhabditis elegans homologs of Ms-golgin80 were also identified through homology sequence search. These proteins share a characteristic feature of having extensive domains for the formation of coiled-coil structure to form a head-rod like molecule. The presence of Ms-golgin80 in mitotic neuroblasts and ganglion mother cells and its reduced expression in their differentiated neuronal progeny suggests that this protein may be involved in maintaining the mitotic property of mitotic cells through active vesicle transport in the Golgi complex.
