Membrane Processing of Ethanol -Extracted Corn Oil

The liquid extract was then concentrated using membrane technology, yielding a fraction that may include protein (zein), lecithins and other potentially high-value fractions soluble in ethanol, in addition to the corn oil. Investigation of the nature and extent of membrane fouling has also been performed with the use of electron scanning microscopy with field-emission gun (ESEM-FEG) and matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization (MALDI) mass spectroscopy. Economics of the dry grind process with the new membrane processes for oil recovery were shown to add considerable value.
