These findings indicate that angiotensinogen and uterine complement C3 can serve as sensitive indicators of estrogenicity. Additionally, angiotensinogen has the potential to be a biomarker of exposure to estrogenic compounds because its measurement only requires a blood sample, while providing a sensitive biochemical endpoint to supplement the uterotrophic assay. Nevertheless, other endpoints that can be used as potential biomarkers of environmental estrogen exposure are still needed since angiotensinogen is not specific to estrogens and thus cannot be used alone.
