Inheritance of Resistance of Maize to Infection by Barley Yellow Dwarf Viruses
Abstract
dc:descriptionAdditionally, five sweet corn hybrids were tested for their reaction to inoculation with RMV-IL in 1992 and 1993. Symptoms were observed on four hybrids in 1992 but on none in 1993. Lowest levels of incidence of virus were detected in the May 1992 planting. The highest levels of incidence of virus and a significant decrease in the mean 10 ear weights in inoculated plots were observed for the June planting dates both years. It was concluded that hybrid susceptibility to BYDVs should be considered when planting sweet corn from middle to late June in order to limit potential yield losses.
