The Effect of Ethanol and Acetaldehyde on Formation and Repair of Carcinogen-Dna Adducts in the Mammary Gland
Abstract
dc:descriptionIn conclusion, both ethanol and acetaldehyde are capable of enhancing carcinogen-DNA adduct formation and inhibiting removal. However, these effects are dependent on the concentrations of ethanol or acetaldehyde, the time of exposure and the dose of carcinogen. Additionally, these effects, particularly those related to adduct formation, may be explained by either decreases in levels of carcinogen-detoxifying enzymes or an overall increase in oxidative stress.
