Characterization of the Yeast Gpi3 Protein, the Catalytic Subunit of the First Enzyme Complex in GPI Anchor Biosynthesis
Abstract
dc:descriptionI also undertook to disrupt the S. pombe gpi3 + gene and to carry out comparative studies of the fungal and human Gpi3p homologs. The S. pombe gpi3+ gene was found to be essential for cell viability in this organism. The in vivo complementation studies indicated that the S. pombe, S. cerevisiae, and H. sapiens enzymes, although very similar at the amino acid level, do not complement each other.
