Regulation and Role of Methylation During Chemotaxis in Bacillus Subtilis

While CheC and CheD affect the level of receptor methylation, these proteins are not absolutely required for either methylation or demethylation of McpB. Their role in chemotaxis is unknown but may function as structural proteins facilitating a higher-order organization of the MCPs as has been shown to exist in Escherichia coli.
