Quantification of the Chemotaxis Protein Expression Levels in Bacillus Subtilis

The expression levels of CheD appear to be tuned to give the functional ratio of protein need to participate in adaptation. When the potential binding partners of CheD are deleted (cheC and all ten receptors), the protein levels of CheD drop significantly. This finding suggests that B. subtilis selectively degrades excess chemotaxis proteins to maintain optimum ratios.
