The reaction of ReS4- with nitriles in the presence of S8 yielded azadithiolene (S2NCR 2-) complexes, ReS(S4)(S2NCR)- (R = C6H5, 4-C6H4CF 4, 4-C6H4CO2Me, or 4-C6H 4NO2). The reaction of ReS4- with CF3CN in the presence of 1/8 equiv of S8 yielded ReS(S2NCCF3)2-, in the presence of Me3NO this reaction yielded cis and trans isomers of ReO(S2NCCF3)2-. The trifluoroacetonitrile adduct cis-ReO(S2NCCF 3)2- was crystallographically characterized.
