Progress in the Synthesis and Modification of Glass Surfaces Necessary to the Study of Single Molecule Protein Folding and Nanolithography

The focus of this research was to monitor the folding of a single protein molecule using sp-FRET. In order to accomplish this task, surface modification of a glass coverslip was necessary to prevent non-specific binding. Modification of the surface was accomplished by derivatizing the surface with PEG's and dextrans. Also, the surface was modified using a metal coated AFM tip, resulting in nanolithography of the surface which was observed using confocal microscopy.
