Finding One's Voice: Predicting Litigation Decision Making in a Class Action Sexual Harassment Lawsuit

"Study One is based on a sample of female workers employed at a nationally based financial firm, who either participated in a class-action sexual harassment lawsuit against the company (""litigant"" sample; n = 1,218) or decided not to participate (""non-litigant"" sample; n = 465). Based on logistic regression, three variables were significant predictors of litigation initiation: organizational climate, PTSD symptomology, and primary appraisal (demoralization). Participants in Study Two (n = 492) were part of a two-year follow-up of the litigant group described in Study One. Multinomial logistic regression identified three significant predictors of litigation persistence: PTSD symptomology, financial dependence, and education level. Theoretical and practical implications for the role of these factors in predicting litigation decision making are discussed."
