Military Retirement: Exploring the Relationships Between Individual Characteristics and Career Transition Mental Preparedness
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe independent variable with significant relationship to the CTI Independence scale was the Family Status characteristic, specifically having a spouse and children. The strongest transition decision-making variations occurred between having children versus not having children. A person's Readiness level had the propensity to increase as the number of dependent children increases (from one child to five children). Based on these data, family is a primary influencer on the career transition mental preparedness of a retiring military member. Family is a primary catalyst for career transition, yet also limits career decision options.
