The Summer Research Opportunity Program: Mentorship and the Socialization of Underrepresented Minorities Into the Professoriate
Abstract
dc:descriptionThe work goes on to discuss the academic and professional impacts of mentoring and networking. Students reported an increase in their writing and critical thinking skills as a result of faculty mentoring. Guidance towards or modeling of graduate study, occupational preparation, and the informational benefits of expanded networks were professional benefits of mentoring and networking. The results of this work suggest the importance of mentorship in preparing students of color for both graduate education and entrance into the professoriate.
