"Public School Reform in Puerto Rico: Education for an ""orthodox"" Economics"

Throughout Puerto Rico's history under U.S. colonialism, schooling has played a central role in the development of the country. Yet, while Puerto Rico has experienced moments of economic growth under colonialism, the meaning and significance of that growth, in the context of the country's overall development, remains problematic. This work is an effort to examine how a particular conception of economic and political development has been advanced in Puerto Rico through the language and policies of public school reform initiatives.
