"Hamilton Forrest's ""camille"": A study through production"
Abstract
dc:descriptionA collection of information concerning Hamilton Forrest's 1930's opera, Camille, a French version of the Alexandre Dumas, fils novel, La Dame au Camelias. The updating of the story to 1930 and the addition of jazz elements is studied, as well as the successes and failures of the piece regarding its placement in the history of opera, the Chicago Opera Theater, and Mary Garden, for whom the work was written.
