A Study of the Nature and Significance of the Skills for Comprehending Difficult Poetry

This is a study of the process of comprehending poetry, especially difficult poetry. The investigation analyzes the process of reading poetry for understanding by examining four categories of difficulty delineated by George Steiner. The skills of each category are identified along with their significance to the reading process. Examples are provided, and each category is also discussed in terms of its limitations.
