A Study of the Diffusion of Information Pertaining to Formal Continuing Legal Education

Recent literature suggests that theories and models of the continuing education participation process are not found in today's literature. It appears that we need to more fully understand factors that influence participation. In an attempt to uncover factors related to participation in continuing professional education, the current study focused on the continuing professional education of attorneys. The research concentrated on the diffusion or spread of information pertaining to formal continuing legal education activities and sought to ascertain the channels of communication and the messages which were viewed as most important for encouraging attorneys to enroll in formal continuing legal education activities. Further, the research tried to find out if the communication had a relatively greater or different effect on certain receivers than on others.
