The K- pi pi system in the reaction K-p -> K-pi+pi-p at 5.5 BeV/c

An experiment has been performed in which 436,000 exposures were taken using the separated K- beam at the ANL ZGS and the MURA 30 il hydrogen hubble chamber. As a part. of this experiment a study of the Kpipi system in the reaction K-pi -> K-pi+pi-p at 5.5 BeV/c has been carried out to The following results are obtained in this study (l) Evidence that the Deck mechanism plays a dominant ·'*0 role in K (890) production. leading to a broad enhancement in the K pi pi system at low mass q (2) no definite evidence for K** (1320) production, (3) 8'vidence for K** (1430) production with subsequent decay into K (890) and pi (4) supporting evidence for the recently discovered L(1789) meson, and finally, (5) indications for a new resonance in the K pipi system at 2.02 BeV.
