Investigations of chiral recognition of conformationally rigid chiral stationary phases

From mechanistic considerations, the development of conformationally rigid chiral stationary phases (CSPs) has been a goal. Several conformationally rigid CSPs derived from α-amino-lactams have been prepared and their abilities to separate the enantiomers of a variety of analytes have been evaluated. π-Acidic α-amino-β-lactam-derived CSPs have been designed specifically for the enantioseparation of underivatized β-blockers. A systematic study of chromatographic structure-activity relationships for the resolution of π-acidic dinitrobenzoyl (DNB) amino acid derivatives on several DNB π-acidic CSPs has been carried out. Related to these studies, X-ray crystallographic structure determinations have been pursued in a quest for the origins of chiral-self recognition.
