Black children and their churches

Investigators have long been concerned with how different environments impact on the behaviors and attitudes of children. In this regard, much of the attention has been focused on the school and home environments. The aim of this research was to explore the significance of a major institutional setting in black communities, the church, on black children. Specifically, this investigation was aimed at examining the role of the black church in the socialization and education of black children. Within this context, this investigation addressed issues related to performance and competency. Techniques of participant observation were utilized in a Baptist and African Methodist Episcopal church for an extensive period of time.
