Global perspectives on cultural competence in mental health care: Current status and future directions

Patient experiences with healthcare providers have been demonstrated to have significant impacts on their level of satisfaction with care. This poses implications for their healthcare treatment and outcomes. Patient experiences are especially important in mental healthcare. For patients who identify as belonging to a marginalized race or ethnicity, positive experiences are particularly crucial in addressing mental healthcare disparities. Cultural competence can aid providers in creating these positive experiences and influencing outcomes for marginalized races or ethnicities. This scoping review investigates the complex nature of cultural competence in mental healthcare.
