Design and validation of a large scale vertically propelled quadrotor
Abstract
dc:descriptionFrom package delivery to the planting of tree saplings, the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) has helped to automate the work of society. UAVs can take many forms from those including horizontal propellers with airfoils, such as airplanes, to those utilizing four vertical propellers such as quadrotors. The use of UAVs focused on the design principles of vertical propellers have gained popularity due to the ease of control and the lack of space required for the system to become airborne. The design and stabilization of a large-scale quadrotor that can be vertically propelled into the air is the focus of this work. This thesis details the iterative design process and the construction of a UAV with a passive mechanism utilized to actuate the system from a launch state to a hover state along with the design and construction of a reusable launch platform that can quickly deploy such systems.
