Lanthanide metal-organic framework for ratiometric detection and adsorption of copper ions in water
Abstract
dc:descriptionCopper ion (Cu2+) contamination in water is a serious environmental issue. The main goal of this project is to address this concern by developing novel material that can both detect and remove Cu2+ in water. Two lanthanide ions, coupled with two organic linkers, were used to fabricate the crystalline material of metal-organic framework (Tb@Eu-MOF). The obtained Tb@Eu-MOF exhibits ratiometric luminescence detection performance towards Cu2+ with a broad linear detection range of 0.025-750 mg/L. Also, the limit of quantification is 9.93 μg/L, which is lower than the WHO drinking water standard. The effective adsorption of Cu2+ is achieved by Tb@Eu-MOF with an adsorption capacity of 384.62 mg/g. The good adsorption capacity is due to the monolayer interaction between Cu2+ and the surface functional groups of Tb@Eu-MOF. The result in the present study demonstrates the potential of Tb@Eu-MOF to effectively detect and remove Cu2+ in water.
