Shape-switching studies with cyclophanes and indicator displacement assays with boronic acids

This thesis includes the development of indicator displacement assays (IDAs) with a boronic acid receptor, used for the differentiation of Z and E alkene mixtures. An IDA protocol was developed which is ammenable to high-throughput screening and can successfully identify Z and E alkene mixtures with an average absolute error of eight percent. The second research chapter includes the synthesis and analysis of shape-switching cyclophane hosts with a range of molecular guests. This research serves as a contribution towards the field of molecular machines and switches which may gain utility in the fields of drug delivery or catalysis.<br/>
