Συσχέτιση της βιοσύνθεσης των βασικών μεμβρανών με την αγγειογένεση

Abstract

dc:description

Angiogenesis is an important determinant for the diagnosis or the therapeutic intervention in the so called "angiogenic diseases" e.g. diabetic retinopathy, chronic inflammation neoplasma. A biochemical method is suggested here for the evaluation of angiogenesis which is based on the fact that during the last stages of angiogenesis there is a need for the synthesis of basement membrane (b.m.) for the formation of new blood vessels. One of the basic structural elements of b.m. is collagen type IV which is found only in b.m. therefore there is a correlation between the biosynthesis of collagen type IV and so that of b.m. with angiogenesis. So the evaluation of the biosynthesis of collagen type IV can be used as a quantitative marker of angiogenesis and for the evaluation of angiogenic and anti-angiogenic factors that may have therapeutic potential.
