dc:descriptionTHE NITROSATION OF 4-METHYLAMINO-1-METHYL-PYRIDINIUM PERCHLORATE IN 0.1-4.0 N PERCHLORIC ACID IS OF FIRST ORDER IN AMINE AND NITROUS ACID AND FOLLOWS THE RATEEXPRESSION: R=K3 [AMINE] [NITROUS ACID] HO. (I) THE RESPECTIVE NITROSAMINE FORMED IS EASILY DENITROSATED UNDER THE EXPERIMENTAL CONDITIONS. THE VALUE OF K3 IS COMPATIBLE TO THAT OF THE NITROSATION OF 4-METHYLAMINO- PYRIDINE. AN EXAMINATION OF THE K3 VALUES FOR SOME AMINES INDICATES THAT THE NITROSATING AGENT, WHICH IS THE NITROUS ACIDIUM ION, INTERACTS FIRST WITH THE HETEROCYCLIC NUCLEUS. (SHORTENED)
