Exploring methodologies in feminist rhetoric and education: using Kirsch and Royster's terms of engagement in the college classroom

<p>"This project seeks to determine if the methodology proposed by Jacqueline Royster and Gesa Kirsch in their book Feminist Rhetorical Practices can be used to teach Feminist Rhetorical reading at the college level. In order to test and demonstrate the use of the methodology, a study was conducted in which students learned and applied Kirsch and Royster's methodology to the works of Hildegard von Bingen, a twelfth-century abbess. The study analyzed the critical thinking and writing of seven student participants. Students were asked to engage in discussion and exploratory writing on the subject of Kirsch and Royster's methodology and two passages from Hildegard von Bingen's Scivias. Analysis of the results of this study suggests that not only can the methods outlined in Feminist Rhetorical Practices be used to teach Feminist Rhetoric, but also that Hildegard von Bingen is an ideal practice subject for students who are learning to utilize this methodology"--Leaf 1.</p>
