Signatures of gut microbes in human diseases
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThe human body constitutes a complex ecosystem inhabited by a vast and diverse community of microorganisms. Through evolution, host-microbe interactions have been shaped toward mutually beneficial relationships that support host health. Consequently, perturbations of the microbial compartment are increasingly recognized as contributing factors in a wide range of human diseases. This work investigates how bacteria residing in the human large intestine – home to the densest microbial community in the body – contribute to the pathogenesis of three distinct conditions: Parkinson’s disease (PD), inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), and colorectal cancer (CRC).
