Incorporación de vitamina C en dietas larvarias y su implicación en el desarrollo de Solea senegalensis
Abstract
dc:description.abstractThis thesis is a contribution to advancing the knowledge on the role of an essential micronutrient for marine fish, vitamin C, during the larval stage. The study was carried out using an important aquaculture species, the Senegalese sole. Technologies were developed that allowed controlled dosage and form of presentation of vitamin C. An important part of the thesis was devoted to study the potential of nanotechnology in aquaculture. Three different types of nanoparticles were designed, developed and evaluate. Nanoparticles were obtained after using different techniques including the use of various materials and water-soluble compounds. In addition, the safety and efficacy of these techniques for water-soluble compound delivering in aquaculture were tested. The formulation, the microencapsulation protocol and the culture system used, allowed the replacement of rotifers during the first feeding stage of sole and enabled a nutritional study to be conducted. Ascorbyl palmitate is a source of vitamin C available for the first larval stages of sole. The nutritional study performed as part of this thesis revealed the important role of vitamin C in the larval stage of soles and the impact of vitamin deficiency during first feeding on the development and antioxidant defence system and its involvement in various metabolic pathways. The pattern of ascorbic acid content during the larval stage of sole was also determined and, for the first time, a mechanism of vitamin C transport at the molecular level was identified in this species. Vitamin C in sole has an important role in the regulation of iron metabolism. A higher dietary intake of iron and vitamin C to sole larvae resulted in improved growth, antioxidant balance and improved histological and skeletal development.
