Portfolio Management Potentials of Medical Establishments // Възможности за портфолио управление на лечебните заведения

Providing a concept for integrated model of portfolio management as an element of strategic hospital (company) management, based on the theoretical and methodological fundamentals of strategic management in healthcare and examples of the health system current state, is the main goal of this dissertation study. A critical analysis of existing theoretical concepts for strategic and portfolio management is performed together with a presentation of the overlapping areas. Systematic approach, situational analysis, the “Delphi” method, statistical methods of analysis, portfolio analysis, etc., are used for the purposes of this study. A concept of integrated model for portfolio management of medical establishments including market assessment and competitiveness indicators specific to hospitals has been launched. The model was piloted in general hospitals for active treatment of different groups. Hospital managers acquired a specific tool based on unified criteria for comparison of particular services, types of activities and hospital development areas, thus enabling them for strategic decisions of the future.
