Provision of Blood and Blood Components in the Event Of Emergencies // Осигуряване на кръв и кръвни съставки в случай на бедствени ситуации

Blood transfusions and blood components play an essential role in providing medical care to victims of disasters caused by natural and human factors. Depending on the type of event and the related injuries, a number of victims need sufficient blood components to be provided in a timely manner. In order to respond effectively to a disaster, many of the activities typically involved in the provision and use of blood components need to be adapted to the characteristics of the situation itself. A significant proportion of disaster blood donations are due to the large increase in the number of donors for the first time, but unfortunately, a tiny percentage of these donors return for re-donation as highly motivated donors. Although the usual low return means the absence of a significant number of donors, the increased number of donors for the first time makes it possible to increase the absolute number of regular donors. When analysing the information from the literature review, the need to study the problem with the specifics of collection, processing and use of blood and blood components in emergencies was clearly outlined. There is documented data and experience in summarising them will contribute to the improvement of systems in protecting human life in the event of a disaster. The thesis aims to study the need for blood and blood components in emergencies, the readiness of different groups of the population to become blood donors if necessary, the mechanisms for providing blood and blood components and based on this to propose an algorithm for the organisation of providing them in case of emergencies.
