Identification of Novel Prostate Cancer Subtypes Using Stem/Progenitor Cell Models

Prostate cancer (CaP) is the most commonly diagnosed cancer, and the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in American men. Despite earlier detection, CaP continues to be fatal in ~10% of cases and better treatments for patients with advanced disease are desperately needed. Understanding the molecular pathways involved in CaP initiation, progression, and resistance to treatment may help identify novel therapeutic targets. However, the molecular complexity of individual CaP genomes along with the heterogeneity observed between patients suggests that multiple molecular subtypes of CaP exist.
