SELECTION/CONSTRUCTION AND CHARACTERIZATION OF NOVEL PEPTIDE AND RECOMBINANT PROTEIN AGENTS TARGETING INTERLEUKIN 13 RECEPTOR ALPHA 2 IN GLIOBLASTOMA MULTIFORME
Abstract
dc:description.abstractGlioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is a primary brain tumor of dismal prognosis. Patients with GBM have a median survival rate of 14.5 months inspite of multimodality treatment involving surgery, radio- and chemotherapy. This warrants an intensive search for efficient new therapies. Interleukin 13 receptor alpha 2 (IL-13Rα2) is an internalized, plasma membrane receptor for IL-13. IL-13Rα2 is over-expressed in around 75 percent of GBM patients. One of our goals is to develop specific therapeutic delivery vehicles and imaging agents targeting IL-13Rα2.
