A study of the dairy industry in China, and Australia's export potential

dc:description.abstractThe aim of the study is to develop an understanding of production and demand of dairy related products in China with a view to providing a basis to determine the export potential of dairy products from Australia. In order to achieve this aim, the following specific objectives were addressed: • To provide an outline of the Chinese dairy industry including favourable developmental factors and developmental constraints; • Taking into account the influence of history, culture and dietary preference on production and consumption, to examine how current demand for dairy products in China has been met through local production and or imports; • To develop an understanding of the Australian dairy industry and its capacity to satisfy any existing shortfall in supply or contribute to any future growth in demand for dairy products which is unlikely to be met through China's domestic dairy industry.
