The Development of Novel Apparatus, Systems, and Methods for Non-Invasive Thermal Interrogation (NITI)
Abstract
dc:description.abstractNon-Invasive Thermal Interrogation (NITI) is a form of non-destructive testing (NDT) that uses simultaneous measurements of object surface heat flux and object surface temperature. When these measurements are combined with signal processing algorithms, such as parameter estimation routines or other techniques, they can be used to non-invasively determine the internal temperature and parameters of the object in real-time. Consequently, NITI has a number of applications in the, for example, bio-medical, industrial, food safety, and wearable industries. The purpose of this Dissertation is to document the conceptualization and development of practical methods of Non-Invasive Thermal Interrogation (NITI) as pertains to a few example and non-limiting applications. This includes the design of novel NITI sensor technology and apparatus as well as different signal processing and interrogation techniques.
