Centralised Preparation of Medicinal Products for Systemic Treatment of Malignant Diseases in Hospital Pharmacies in Bulgaria – Specifics, Challenges and Prospects // Централизирано разтваряне на лекарствени продукти за системно лечение на злокачествени заболявания в болничните аптеки в България – специфики, предизвикателства и перспективи

A legal change to introduce centralised preparation of medicinal products for systemic treatment of malignant diseases in Bulgaria was made at the end of 2015, and there is no regulatory document that specifies exactly what competencies are required to perform it. The purpose of this thesis is to study and analyse the process and the training of personnel for the implementation of this specific pharmaceutical activity. To achieve the goal, the following main tasks were addressed: studying, analysing, and providing recommendations to the legislation governing the process; and studying hospitals and pharmaceutical personnel related to the centralised preparation of cytotoxics. The unusable residues of dissolved drugs reimbursed by the NHIF were analysed. Historical, documentary, statistical, and graphical methods were used, as well as the interview method, through which the study was conducted. The results obtained show that: - The number of hospitals in which the process is carried out is increasing, but not all of them comply with the regulations. - The value of unused cytostatic residues reimbursed by the NHIF is increasing annually, with the trend being a decrease in active units and an increase in value. - Pharmacists preparing solutions are mainly female master pharmacists, aged 36-50, most of whom have undergone some training voluntarily. - The legislation needs improvement. The study analyses the centralised preparation of cytostatics in Bulgaria for the first time.
