Anaesthesia in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery // Обезболяване в оралната и лицево-челюстна хирургия

Pain is an unpleasant sensory and psychological experience resulting from actual or potential tissue damage and is commonly associated with dental treatment. Local anaesthesia is a safe and effective way to manage pain. Long surgical procedures are among the indications for treatment with sedation or general anaesthesia in dentistry. However, the existing literature does not provide a clear and meaningful idea of what can be considered a “long” or “short” oral surgical treatment. Further clarification of the duration of “long” treatments is needed to better understand and interpret the results of studies in this regard. The study aims to determine the prevalence and characteristics of different methods of local and general anaesthesia in day dental surgery and maxillofacial surgery. For the period from 2019 to 2021, a total of 1,794 patients were examined and analysed, of which 1,024 patients were treated at the Clinic of Maxillofacial Surgery at St. Marina University Hospital –Varna, and 770 patients were treated at the University Medical and Dental Centre at Medical University - Varna.
