Traducción comentada del inglés al español latinoamericano del artículo académico médico Update on recent advances in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (2024) desde un enfoque funcionalista

La traducción de textos médicos académicos plantea desafíos significativos, no solo por su terminología especializada, sino también por las funciones informativa y divulgativa que cumplen dentro de la comunidad científica. En este contexto, el artículo Update on recent advances in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (2024) presenta una revisión sobre los avances recientes en el estudio de la esclerosis lateral amiotrófica (ELA), dirigida a un público profesional de habla inglesa. Si bien la traducción médica ha sido abordada en diferentes especialidades como la cardiología, oncología, farmacología, entre otros, la traducción de textos centrados en enfermedades neuromusculares como la ELA, han recibido poca atención en la Traductología, a pesar de los desafíos que plantea la terminología y su adecuación a distintos contextos discursivos y lingüísticos. Por lo tanto, en esta investigación se desarrollará una traducción comentada de este texto al español latinoamericano, basada en el modelo funcionalista propuesto por Nord (2012). Para ello, el análisis se dividirá en tres etapas: pretraslativa, centrada en identificar la función del texto y su público meta; traslativa, enfocada en evaluar los problemas y dificultades, así como solucionar estos problemas a través de las técnicas y estrategias de traducción; y postraslativa, orientada a examinar la funcionalidad del texto meta. A través de este enfoque, se busca garantizar una transferencia del contenido conforme a las convenciones del discurso médico en español y su adecuación a especialistas hispanohablantes.The translation of academic medical texts presents significant challenges, not only because of their specialized terminology, but also because of the informative and educational functions they fulfill within the scientific community. In this context, the article Update on recent advances in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (2024) presents a review of recent advances in the study of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), aimed at an English-speaking professional audience. While medical translation has been approached in different specialties such as cardiology, oncology, and pharmacology, among others, the translation of texts focused on neuromuscular diseases such as ALS has received limited attention in translation studies, despite the challenges posed by terminology and its adaptation to different discursive and linguistic contexts. This research aims to produce an annotated translation of the article into Latin American Spanish, using Nord’s (2012) functionalist model. In order to do this, the analysis will be divided into three stages: pre-translation, focused on identifying the function of the text and its target audience; translation, focused on analyzing problems and difficulties, as well as solving them through translation techniques and strategies; and post-translation, aimed at evaluating the functionality of the target text. Through this approach, the aim is to ensure that the content is transferred in accordance with the conventions of medical discourse in Spanish and that it is suitable for a specialized Spanish-speaking audience.
