M-learning is defined as learning across multiple educational contexts using handheld devices such as smart-phones and tablets. The successful use of M-learning systems depends on how they are viewed by students and lecturers. This research aimed to identify the determinants of the use of mobile learning in a higher education context in Saudi Arabia by exploring user perspectives on the use of mobile technologies (including mobile social networking) in teaching and learning. The study adopted a mixed-methods approach involving the use of survey and interview instruments that were developed from a review of relevant literature. The study design was based on the technology acceptance literature and the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). The findings will assist lecturers to develop learning and teaching strategies and create a digital environment that meets students’ expectations and needs. In particular, the study results will facilitate a better understanding of the ways in which beneficial M-learning solutions can be developed.
