Structural Analysis and Radiation Response of Multi-Walled Boron Nitride Nanotubes
Abstract
dc:descriptionElectron irradiation damage analysis has revealed that: (1) Damage mechanism is different from carbon nanotubes; no radiation induced amorphization was observed, (2) irradiation response of BN nanotubes to 200 keV electrons in TEM environment is almost independent of temperature, (3) under intense electron beam irradiation layers of multi-walled BN nanotubes undulate and curl into single layer cages, (4) overall electron irradiation response of BN nanotubes is the gradual thinning and collapse of inner diameter which results in cone shaped, crystalline probes when cut fully.
