I also used a differential mobility analyzer to first determine the size distribution of the fresh aerosols. I then used a humidifying tandem differential mobility analyzer to determine the growth of fresh and aged aerosols under different humidity conditions (from 20% and 83% RH). Soot from wood combustion did not display any hygroscopic growth directly after generation or when aged for 24 hours with direct co-pollutants. Wood burning soot did display some hygroscopic growth when mixed with a larger mass fraction of hygroscopic smoldering emissions; however the mixture's growth was less than the growth of pure smoldering emissions. The optical properties of the mixture were dominated by the soot.
