Farnesyl Pyrophosphate/geranylgeranyl Pyrophosphate Synthase of Toxoplasma Gondii: Its Role in the Parasite Isoprenoid Pathway and as a Target for Bisphosphonates
Abstract
dc:descriptionIn summary, this work provides information to understand the isoprenoid pathway in T. gondii by isolation and characterization of an important enzyme in the pathway, TgFGGPS. Identification of TgFGGPS as the molecular target of bisphosphonates in this work provides a key tool for rational-based drug design. In addition, this work represents a new approach to chemotherapy of toxoplasmosis with a group of safe and easy to prepare compounds.
