The Social and Structural Contexts of Sexual Health Status: A Study of Sexually Transmitted Infections Among Chicago Women
Abstract
dc:descriptionThese findings support the theory that appropriate sexual health interventions must focus on the larger structural inequalities that drive risk behaviors in order to increase opportunities for empowered healthy decision-making. Implications for social work policy and practice include social welfare and public policy reform, reinvestment in and revitalization of deteriorating neighborhoods, job training, and community organization. Suggestions for future research are also discussed.
