Acute Effects of Episodic PCB Congeners on the Hypothalamo -Pituitary-Thyroid (Hpt) Axis in Weanling Female Rats

Abstract

dc:description

These studies demonstrate that brief exposure to ortho-substituted PCBs can cause alterations in the HPT axis in immature animals. The data indicate that ortho-PCBs 95 or 101 cause secondary or pituitary-related hypothyroidism. There is also evidence that these PCBs may be affecting the HPT-axis through multiple mechanisms.
